Wedding Party? More Like Dance Party

It may sound a little cheesy, but there is nothing more exhilarating to me than witnessing an surprise dance routine at a wedding reception. Here are some tips on how to make my dream your reality:

1: Choreograph

First, choose a hip, booty-shakin’ dance track that will knock the socks off your guests and fire up dance floor. Now call up your most coordinated friend and beg him/her to choreograph a fun and easy to learn dance routine for your wedding party. Are you stuck because you have no takers on the choreography part? Don’t worry–all hope is not lost. Just steal a routine from your favorite music video (deep down, everyone loves “Thriller,” right?).

2: Practice

Evite your wedding party to a dance practice and make a night out of it. Rent a dance studio at a local rec center or yoga space. Learn the new moves together and then cool down with some beverages at the nearest watering hole.

Can’t find a practice space? Make it a daytime thing and meet up in a public park for some sunshine and exercise (don’t forget your boom box). If both of these scenarios are impossible because your dancers all live out of town, don’t worry. Make a quick video with your phone or flip camera of the routine and upload it to YouTube! Make a private video link and share the secret moves with your dancers only!

3: Perform

Preparation is key. Make sure you talk to the DJ ahead of time and let him know his/her cue to hit play for the track. Make sure the dance floor is ready and clear… oh and don’t forget to alert your photographer and videographers ahead of time about the surprise performance so they can be ready to document history! Then get out there with your wedding party and tear up the dance floor!
