Not Your Grandma’s Bridal Bouquet

Not Your Grandma’s Bridal Bouquet | Indie BlissWhen it comes to weddings these days, anything goes. Brides everywhere are throwing caution to the wind and being bold, being beautiful, and being themselves. So naturally floral design for weddings should follow suit, right? Wrong! A large percentage of floral designers are doing the same old, boring, and traditional designs. So make it a priority to hire a floral designer for your wedding that is up-to-date on wedding style and is sure to create designs as stylish and distinctive as you. One of my favorite ways to add personality and charm to your wedding flowers is by dressing up your personal flowers (bouquets, boutonnières, corsages) with all sorts of flair. Here are a few of my favorite ideas:

Go Vintage.

Gone are the days of boring hand-tied bouquets tied with large bows. Talk to your floral designer about dressing up your hand-tied bouquet by adding a vintage brooch, a piece of your mother’s wedding gown lace, a monogram, or a ruffle border.

Honor your loved ones.

One of my favorite ideas for adding personality to a bouquet is to weave in a locket or two with a tiny picture of your parents wedding day, an inspiring relative, or a loved one who had recently passed away.

Monochromatic.

While using an assortment of flowers types, colors, and textures can achieve a wildflower look, if you are looking for more drama, choose bouquets that are all one color in your favorite flower. An all-pink orchid bouquet screams drama. Then, if you want to mix it up some, choose a different flower type in the same color category for each bride. Then match the pink tulip bouquet, pink rose bouquet, and pink peony bouquet to the bridesmaid whose personality most matches that flower type! This adds way more visual interest to your wedding flowers while still having a dramatic effect.

Fruit & Herbs.

Wanna help your groom love the little flower he has to wear on his lapel all day? Have your floral designer add herb leaves to his boutonnière to keep him smelling fresh like mint all day! Also, consider using fruits and veggies to add interest to your other arrangements. My favorites? Lemons, green apples, cranberries, and mini-artichokes.

  1. I think the locket is one of my favorites too. There is just something so intimate about that.
