Giving “I Do” A Personal Touch

A few weeks ago, we photographed one of our most fun weddings ever. Part of what made it so great was that the bride and groom truly made it their own and didn’t worry about breaking traditions. The couple is really into the great outdoors, so instead of tux or a suit, the groom wore… well, let’s just say it was a different kind of wedding outfit, but it suited him perfectly!

They incorporated all kinds of adorable details (like the wooden caketopper made to look like the couple), but one of my absolute favorite parts of the whole day was their vows. There was nothing generic about these vows–they were as unique and fun and the couple themselves. Here’s a snippet of the exchange:

“Melissa, do you promise to give Pete the isle if you ever have to fly commercial?” “I do.”

“Will you promise to take care of Wilson [their pet] even if it’s Pete’s turn to do so, but he’s sick and tired of it?” “I do.”

“Will you always promise to laugh, sing, and dance for Pete’s ridiculous song parodies?” “I do.”

“Pete, do you promise to always carry all the heavy stuff when backpacking?” “I do.”

“Do you swear to continue to make Melissa laugh when she’s about to cry?” “I do.”

“Do you pledge to make up jingles about everything and anything and sing and dance with Melissa to them?” “I do.”

Their vows were sweet, humorous, and obviously tailored to their specific relationship and personalities. Since they were so geniune, they elicited more than the usual share of chuckles and tears from the assembled.

Here are a few more photos from their big day, but you can view more over on our site for From the Hip Photo.

  1. Great vows! Love it when the couple makes it personal, it means even more.

  2. I LOVE this wedding! My partner and I are going very non traditional as well. We are very outdoorsy people and it has elicited more than a few…concerns…from family. I have to show them this!! Congratulations to the happy couple!!!

  3. This was a great wedding – love the picture frame idea – stealing it for my own nuptials coming up!
