Choosing Blooms for Your Season

Justin and Cassie got married on May 1, 2010 at the University Club in downtown Denver. Their wedding was one of my favorites to date because they chose to go with flowers that were naturally in season and you can really tell!
Since their venue had a lot of dark wood, we decided to lighten the place up with a cherry blossom theme. These beautiful branches are at the height of their short season in early May, so we were able to make arrangements that were both stunning and affordable. Here are a couple tips for choosing blooms for your wedding:

• When choosing a wedding date, consider the seasonality of your favorite blooms. If you have to have peonies, blooming branches, and other spring favorites, don’t get married in the Fall. These things will be nearly impossible to find and you will pay more than double what you would pay when they are in season.

• If you’ve already chosen a date, be open to choosing blooms that are in season. Your floral designer can help with this and should be able to suggest florals that are in season during your wedding. By going this route, your flowers will be more naturally beautiful, healthy, and affordable. Plus, you may discover some new favorites that you haven’t even seen before!

• If you decide to import flowers when they aren’t in season, be prepared for the reality that they may not be the same quality as when you have seen them in their prime. In my opinion, healthy, thriving flowers are much more important than the type of flower!
