Capturing the Details: Shoes

One of the things I love most about being a wedding photographer is being attuned to the little details which make a wedding unique. The most memorable, fun celebrations tend to be those in which the couple shares a part of their personality by incorporating objects or ideas which have special significance to the relationship.

When a bride and groom aren’t concerned with adhering to someone else’s idea of what their wedding should be, it tends to create a more comfortable environment for the guests and highlights the couple’s individuality. One of my favorite examples of this idea comes from a wedding I photographed this past fall.

Sarah and Todd both love wearing Converse All Stars, those iconic, casual sneakers beloved by folks the world over. It only made sense, then, that they would each rock a pair on the Big Day. Eschewing shiny, rented shoes and traditional high heels, they sported a pair in black for the groom and white ones for the bride. Taking things a step further, they got their entire wedding party in on the fun and were flanked by their bridesmaids and best men in crisp new All Stars in a variety of shades.

It was a simple idea that looked sharp, spoke to Sarah and Todd’s personalities, and gave their guests something to remember. Plus, Sarah was comfy the whole day and didn’t need to change shoes when it came time to dance! Click here to see more photos from their wedding.

If you’re in the planning stages of your wedding, think about what little things you can share about yourselves to enliven and personalize the day.
